"a friendly community with progressive ideas"

POPULATION 6,390 (2000 Census)

Mount Carmel is a community where visitors are treated like an old friend, where it is customary for one another to say "hello" as they pass each other on the street.

Mount Carmel is where some people wish they were raised. We take pride in our recently revitalized downtown, centrally located on Oak Street, with a variety of stores, restaurants, the public library, and municipal building. Our churches, Post Office and Town Park are within walking distance from most homes.

Mount Carmel is one of five communities that comprise the Mount Carmel Area School District. We are proud of our educational programs offered in state of the art facilities. Our Junior/Senior High School was built and completed in 1977. Construction of our Elementary Center was completed and occupied in 1998.

We are also proud of the athletic accomplishments of the young men and women who represent us as the "Mount Carmel Area Red Tornadoes". And, we would be remiss if we didn't mention our young ambassadors of the music field that represent us throughout the country, "The Mount Carmel Area High School Marching Band".

Next time you're traveling through our community, why not stop in and see for yourself why Mount Carmel Pennsylvania is known as "a friendly community with progressive ideas".
